More films and TV series will be filmed and produced in Denmark – and a new million-dollar incentive is set to attract them.

This is the hope of the government, the Social Democrats, and the Radical Left.

In a new agreement signed Tuesday morning at the Ministry of Culture, a permanent production rebate of 125 million Danish kroner per year from 2026 is allocated.

This means that there will be economic incentives to place shootings and productions in Denmark.

"With Scandinavia's largest production rebate, we are sending a clear signal: Denmark should be a leading global film nation - we will kickstart a new golden age," says culture minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt (M) in a press release.

There may be greater purposes for allowing Denmark to shine on television screens worldwide.

"Films are not just entertainment. They are culture, identity, and export in one movement," says the culture minister further.

The film industry is already very aware of where support and rebates can be obtained. As a result, productions often travel around Europe to save as many possible dollars.

The culture minister aims to counteract this with the rebate. More international productions should come to Denmark, and the Danish should be kept within the borders.

"The agreement is also a defense against the chaotic set design carousel, where many Danish films are shot outside Denmark's borders. It's a shame that Rejseholdet, which takes place in Esbjerg, is filmed in Poland in search of rebate orders," he says and adds.

"More Danish films should be filmed in Denmark."

The agreement includes some minimum requirements for the productions.

To receive support, films must have a total budget of 25 million Danish kroner, documentaries 4 million Danish kroner, and animations 6.5 million Danish kroner.

Series must have a budget of 150,000 Danish kroner per minute and a minimum of 15 million Danish kroner.

However, one production cannot run with the entire budget. There is a limit of 20 million Danish kroner in support for a single production.
