'Perkere ud af DK': Possible hateful vandalism hits village for the sixth time

Residents of Rødding call the vandalism "disgusting" and "sad."

It is no more than two weeks ago that residents of Rødding organized a demonstration (https://www.dr.dk/nyheder/indland/greb-faklerne-og-demonstrerede-mod-mulig-racistisk-haervaerk) called 'Rødding mod racisme', after three of the town's business owners with immigrant backgrounds had experienced vandalism in a short period of time.

But it has not stopped the vandalism in the South Jutland town.

Between Thursday and Friday night, a pizzeria in the town had a window smashed, while "perkere ud af DK" was written on the side of the building in yellow graffiti paint.

The same message was also written on another pizzeria two weeks ago.

We have been in contact with the owner of the pizzeria that was subjected to vandalism last night. He does not wish to comment.

'It's disgusting'

----------------------

Freddy Schmidt, who lives in Rødding, woke up this morning to a picture of the vandalism that had been shared on the town's common Facebook page. And it made him very sad, he says:

- I don't understand it. It's otherwise such a peaceful town. I feel sorry for them. It's sad.

Bent Jessen, who also lives in Rødding, shares the same opinion:

- It's disgusting. I don't understand how it can happen, he says.

South and Southern Jutland Police state in a written response that last night's vandalism is the sixth of its kind committed on four different dates within a short period, where "the incidents have similarities in modus operandi."

- We therefore have a suspicion that they have been committed by the same perpetrator or perpetrators, writes Søren Vraa Larsen, Deputy Police Inspector at South and Southern Jutland Police.

It says "perkere ud af DK" on the wall. Are you working on the assumption that it is racially motivated vandalism?

- Our ongoing investigation will, among other things, clarify the motive for the vandalism. One of the hypotheses we are investigating is that there is a hate motive behind it. However, it is too early to determine at this point in the investigation, writes Søren Vraa Larsen.

The police also urge citizens who have information about the case to contact them.
