While you are still thinking about autumn, the municipalities are already thinking about snow and salt

In Roskilde Municipality, preparations began right after the summer holidays to ensure the winter service, and from tomorrow they are ready to respond and deal with, among other things, slippery roads.

Even though the calendar still shows autumn, the municipalities are already preparing for winter and the cold weather.

Because from tomorrow, the municipalities have tractors, snowplows, and road salt ready to handle the coming winter.

"There is beginning to be a risk that it could become slippery on the roads at night. We have started keeping an eye on it and are ready if it happens."

This applies, among others, to Roskilde Municipality, which therefore already today had the final preparations underway at the municipality's equipment depot.

Here, the workshop has been busy inspecting tractors and snowplows, and they also received 300 tons of road salt.

Because even though the thermometer currently does not show frost in the capital area, it is important to be prepared, says Henrik Pedersen, who is the winter watchman at the equipment depot in Roskilde Municipality.

"There is beginning to be a risk that it could become slippery on the roads at night. We have started keeping an eye on it and are ready if it happens. We cannot wait to prepare until it first starts. We have to be ready when it comes," he says.

Preparations begin as soon as the summer holidays end

About 40 tons are used on a single salt run across all of Roskilde Municipality, Henrik Pedersen explains.

Therefore, they also receive continuous deliveries of several tons of salt over the coming months.

And in fact, preparations have been going on for a long time now, says the winter watchman.

"It actually starts already when the summer holidays are coming to an end, that we begin looking at winter and getting the systems and duty schedules ready. The workshop also starts converting the tractors from grass maintenance to winter service," he says.

Even though the municipalities are ready from tomorrow to respond when there are slippery roads and frost, drivers should also consider thinking about winter tires now, Henrik Pedersen believes.

"It is that time of year when you should think about getting winter tires on and keep an eye on the temperatures and be aware that it might be three degrees above zero in the air, but the road surfaces are colder," he says.

The municipalities' winter services are ready for use all the way until April 15.
